VH-JRQ – BD5J – Canberra – Sold to USA N3038V

[Benjamin Morgan]

Built by Quinten Campbell in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.  The aircraft was assigned registration VH-JRQ and a serial number of BDA-01.

The aircraft was built from a collection of parts and a lot was scratch-built components including a completely different wing main spar.

The engine installed was a Microturbo Cougar 022 which came from an Australian Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) Turana military target drone which necessitated a fair bit of lateral thinking.  The engine produced 200lbs of thrust.

Friends close to Quintin have reported that he faced significant obstacles with the Australian aviation regulator, which at the time showed little appetite to permit private experimental jet aircraft.

The aircraft was sold to Juan Jimenez and exported to the United States, where it was assigned registration N3038V.
