I recently purchased a second hand Weber MPE-750 engine to be used for spare parts for my Williams 285 TurboJet yacht tender. I had never actually seen the engine outside of the boat, but when it arrived (and after I had pulled down all of the accessories) I thought ‘this could be a great BD5 powerplant’.
The engine is rated for 143hp @ 7,500rpm, however, achieves peak torque at 5,500rpm making 98hp. These modern 4-stroke 2 cylinder engines are super light weight, high-performance and run far smoother than their 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s predecessors. The engine is under 2/3 the weight of the popular Honda, Nissan and Suzuki 4 cylinder options.
